Waikanae Montessori Pre-School is an incorporated Society, managed by a Trust Board consisting of five elected members and two ex-officio members being the Head Teacher and the President of the Support Committee.
Our Pre-School operates two classes (Māwhero & Kowhai). We follow the Montessori Method of education and incorporate Te Whāriki (New Zealand early childhood curriculum document) into our programme. Each class comprises children from 2½ to 6 years old with a maximum of 40 children overall. There are 2 qualified teachers in each room. We have a teacher’s assistant who supports either class as required. We also have a full time office administrator.
We have beautiful grounds which allows for a variety of activities. The animal enclosure offers the children a unique insight into how animals live.
The vegetable garden provides nutritional food for both the animals and the children.
The secret garden provides a quiet spot for reflection, while the climbing frame and sandpit allow for independent exploration.

We offer a variety of morning and afternoon sessions. Children must be toilet trained. Older children can attend full days or a variety of morning and afternoon classes.
