LANGUAGE

The language curriculum in a Montessori environment involves everything from vocabulary development to writing and reading. It is an integrated approach that combines phonetics and whole language.

Language is taught through a variety of multi-sensory activities: visual, auditory, tactile and kinaesthetic, to meet the needs of all children. As children differentiate and recognise sounds, they begin the process of word building and then blending sounds into meaningful reading.

Verbal activities help children consolidate their oral skills and facilitate their arrival at reading and writing. Children are encouraged to listen to the sounds in words and thus language is developed through the phonic sounds.
