We operate two classrooms, Mawhero and Kowhai, with a license for 40 students overall.
Kowhai Class has a prepared environment for children aged 4 to 5 years old. Two teachers will run this class of 20 children with a teachers assistant. It is a peaceful place for focused work. The children enjoy an environment that meets their learning and interests through a Montessori curriculum aligned with Te Whāriki – supporting a life of true well-being and responsibility.
Mawhero Class has a prepared environment for children aged 2 and 3 years. Two teachers plus a Teachers assistant run this classroom of 20 children. This class incorporates Montessori with Te Whāriki; creating an environment where the focus is on music, movement, language, sensory play, stories, song and dance. At this stage of children’s development, we are introducing the Montessori kaupapa of; ‘choose, use and put away’ and ‘practical life’ activities.
In Both Classrooms We recommend that children attend a minimum of three sessions (morning or afternoon) per week. This assists with the settling in process and helps children to become accustomed to the preschool routines quicker. Children supply their own morning tea in a named snack box along with a named drink bottle. Children staying for lunch also provide their own food in a named lunch box. Please note that we are a nut free preschool so nuts and nut products are not allowed.
